Rapture is not an event but an experience. Immerse yourself in undulating soundwaves of bliss set in the groves of one of Victoria’s finest wineries and prepare to chill yourself into sonic submission with friends old and new.
This is the only event in Australia dedicated to presenting the world’s finest boutique downbeat producers alongside stunning multimedia displays covering architectural masterpieces.
With downbeat electronica and atmospheric grooves, the program embodies the ultimate enriching experience for connoisseurs of the chill genre. All artists featured will be performing a selection of their own compositions, creative independent and evolving musical and visual expression.
During the day you can immerse yourself in an eclectic mix of grooves and rhythms, whilst the night time sounds will be delivered by some of the world’s best virtuosos complimented by philosophers of digital artscapes.
We'll be announcing more amazing friends joining the program soon...
Ott approaches his music with a serious vigor and great phantasmagoria, encapsulating the realms of imagination crafted into a seamless, whimsical and jaw-dropping production. He is a profoundly talented producer, and his knack for sculpting the colourful soundscapes with driving basslines and interlocking layers of organic synths, intriguing samples and effects is both discerningly finessed and wholly mind blowing.
He has worked with the likes of Sinead O’Connor, Embrace, The Orb and Brian Eno and since the early 2000s has produced, mixed and recorded music released on Twisted Records, including various collaborations with label founder Simon Posford.
Ott has performed worldwide from Glastonbury Festival (UK), Boom Festival (Portugal) to Rainbow Serpent (AUS). His works include global sounds, quirky samples, a spectrum of instruments and vocals creating a majestic ride for you, the listener, to places only imagined in the time between waking hours and sleep.
Ott will be showcasing his new album at Rapture, with his performance complimented by his visual projection production, tailored specifically for this set.
Rapture will be Ott’s only performance in Australia.
PSYCHEDELIC DOUGHNUTS AND DROP BEARS - A casual chat with Ott
Spoonbill’s iconic mix of improvised electronica, sound art aesthetics and heavily edited live instrumental recordings became an instant hit with the Australian scene taking to this new direction in electronica like the collective duck to water. He is a restless sonic author constantly defying genres and experimenting with the potential of the vast sonic canvas. He has carved a unique niche within contemporary electronic music, building a worldwide reputation for his idiosyncratic sound design and richly textured high production values.
After completing a degree in Industrial design, he began freelancing as a product and sound designer on a broad spectrum of commercial and art-based projects that saw him exhibit his conceptual ideas in museums around the world, and winning a wide range of audio production awards.
When not displaying his birdlike persona, he works as the head sound designer for Melbourne based interactive and game development studio; Current Circus, developing music based video games and interactive installation projects for corporate clients such as Intel, Microsoft, Asus, Ocean Park (Honk Kong) & PrimeSense.
Humans are sensory beings, and with this in mind Globular has been creating his signature experimental bass and world-music infused sounds from the heart of Bristol (UK) since his debut release in 2010.
His music is a kaleidoscope of bubbling frequencies, fluctuating in and out of existence, with the sole purpose of stimulating the ears, tickling the brain and moving the body. Dubbed-out bass lines provide the bedrock for the harmonic intricacies and grooving melodies that typify Globular’s sound.
Inspired by the universe and all it encompasses, and drawing on influences from psychedelic classics, he strives to take listeners on a journey of their own choosing, encouraging all who enter to create their own stories and to dance their own dance.
Hailing from Portugal, Zen Baboon are Daniel Rosado and Henrique Palhavã.
Drawing on their love and close connection with nature, their work samples recordings from the natural environment whilst giving us glimpses of various genres as they take us through a stunning soundscape. And it’s no surprise given Daniel, a sound engineer, has worked on National Geographic documentaries and Henrique, a zoologist living and working on his own farm, started out as an ambient DJ and producer.
Simply put, Zen Baboon’s production quality is outstanding. Whilst their personal musical preferences come from different backgrounds, they have a deep appreciation for different musical styles and original compositions.
Having graced the stage at events all over the world, from Boom Festival (Portugal), Ozora (Hungary) to Psy-Fi (Netherlands), this will be the first time Zen Baboon will be performing in Australia.
With a string of full-length album releases and world class festival appearances including the legendary Shambhala Music Festival in Canada, Boom Festival in Portugal and performances across Australia from Rainbow Serpent, Dragon Dreaming to Eclipse Festival, Griff has cemented his place as one of Australia’s favourite music producers.
With qualifications in audio engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, his career includes working alongside some of the world’s biggest acts including Grammy Award winning producers and engineers at one of Melbourne’s premier large scale recording studios, Sing Sing Studios.
Griff likes to approach his music writing in a conceptual way, drawing on all his experiences and tried and tested techniques learnt from the best in the industry. Griff’s sound is laid back and relaxed, taking many turns and twists, which has seen him working with the likes of The Cat Empire, John Butler Trio, Blue King Brown and more. He’s released music on labels including Omelette, Addictech, Enig’Matik, Slurp Music and Buxton Records.
He’s an all-round great guy who enjoys laughing and is uncomfortable talking in the third person. We look forward to welcoming Griff at Rapture.
Having been raised on a diet of classical music, opera and jazz, Felix trained as a bassoon player and worked professionally for several symphony orchestras before switching over to electronic music full time.
Since then he has been weaving jazz, classical and contemporary threads together whilst incorporating his addiction of piano and what some may call a slight obsession for building analogue and digital synthesizers.
Felix has been creating both software and hardware synthesizers to use in his creative endeavours since 2009 and in that time has released four full length albums and one EP under his alternate musical project name Terrafractyl. A new chill project under the Hypnagog brand will be announced in 2020, with the launch at Rapture.
Hailing from Spain, Itay Berger first started his career in Israel. With a background as a sound engineer and record label owner, Itay has been drawn to chill sounds since the early 2000s. He works closely with some of the world’s best musicians and has been producing for two decades.
Those who are familiar with his sound will know that it’s more than just chill. Itay’s style fuses dub, world music, down-tempo with a sprinkling of funk to create a sonic journey for the listener.
He calls his creations “sunshine music for smiling people”.
It has become clearly obvious with the current situation that we are unable to go ahead with our plans this year. Our minds and hearts are with everyone severely impacted by the new restrictions, especially all our amazing friends throughout Melbourne, who we know are doing it really tough at the moment, with lockdowns extended.
We remain fully committed to this amazing project, and it has been a dream of ours for a long time to host a dedicated chill music event. We’re really disappointed but we have also been positively overwhelmed with your encouragement for Rapture and we thank you for your ongoing messages of support! Therefore we have decided to put Rapture planning on hold until such time that it is safe and legal to proceed. We have decided to not seek refunds on the deposits we have paid for our artists as we feel that they are the ones who need support the most during this difficult time. Now is the time to donate via your favourite artist's Patreon or professional profile. After all, it will be the creative minds that keep your entertainment going during this dark period.
What does this mean for us and Rapture? Well, we’re treating it as a period to slow down, reflect and be ready to re-commence delivery of the event as soon as we’re allowed. That means making plans to bring all the amazing musicians and artists together, so that we can co-create something unlike anything available in Australia right now. If you wish to support us, that’s fantastic – thank you. That means your ticket will be valid for the day we are able to go ahead (to be announced following easing of government restrictions). If you’re sure you’ll be able to join us in the future but need to seek a refund right now, that’s fine too – please email us at tickets@festivaldirector.com.au to request it.
In the meantime, we'll continue to share with you discoveries from artists and musicians across the globe which we hope will ease this challenging time for you.
